Splurge-Pop was recorded between Factory and New Cut studios Bristol, by recording engineer Alex Wander.
The hardest question we’re ever asked is ‘what kind of music do you play?’ We say ‘Splurge-Pop’, to which people look confused. This EP is what we mean, it’s the culmination of erratic minds writing individually and collectively, without restraint, sometimes sticking to tradition, and sometimes not. With songs like ‘Malakas’ and ‘Pacifist Spar’, the influence is hard to pin down, they are playful and experimental but they include elements of blues, funk and electronica. As a group who individually like an array of genres and music, the music finds itself somewhere in between a personal and collective vision. I suppose in that way, making an EP we all enjoy listening to is enough of an achievement.
